STUDENT WORK
I teach high school students, from 9th to 12th grade, guiding them through both beginning and advanced courses. My classroom thrives with creativity as we explore design fundamentals and dive into Photoshop software. One of the highlights for my students is seeing their digital projects come to life when printed.
POSTAGE STAMP & POSTCARD
Students will choose a location to create 1 illustration that works as a postage stamp and postcard. The location they choose can be a landmark, famous person, animal, food, or state flower. They must choose something that represents the location well and keep in mind how it reads on a small postage stamp. Each student will need to have their presentation on a digital mockup, print postage sticker and postcard for presentation.
YEAR CALENDAR
Students are to illustrate a year calendar poster with a fun illustration of their choice. This project will allow students to learn about composition, typography, contrast, and placement. They will need to think about how all the elements will come together and create a pleasing composition. This project will be printed when completed and students will get to use their very own calendar for the rest of the school year.
SODA TIME CAPSULE
Students are to come up with a unique soda packaging brand drink of their choice. The soda flavor and brand name chosen should pair well with the illustration as one cohesive theme. This project will allow students to think about how to illustrate a design in a cylinder form. In addition, a digital mockup version of the design on a soda can will also be require for final presentation. An empty soda can will be provided to each student and they will be required to print and paste their illustrated strip. Inside the soda can students will include a time capsule questioner to fill out and are allowed to put anything else that’s fits inside before sealed off. Student will reopen can when they graduate.
BOOK COVER POSTER
Students will create a book cover poster of their choice that will be printed and presented for final day of class. Students must think about composition, layout, and color when exploring sketches for their final poster. They must also decide what should be included in the design that is interesting and has connections with the book. The title of the book must be prominent and well incorporated with the illustration.
